Renovation of a stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Completed plans call for the renovation of a stadium.
https://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/news/2022/08/26/simmons-bank-liberty-bowl-upgrades.html Aug 26, 2022 With college football set to kick off, the 58,000-seat home of the University of Memphis Tigers received a multimillion-dollar makeover. The City of Memphis recently announced it is investing $2 million for upgrades and improvements to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in anticipation of the upcoming 2022 season. The Memphis Tigers will host Arkansas State University in its home opener on Sept. 17. Fans coming for the Southern Heritage Classic between Jackson State University and Tennessee State University will be the first to experience the enhancements when the HBCU schools hit the gridiron on Sept. 10. City officials stated that the changes are set to happen in several phases, but some of the visible improvements have already been done. Those new features include fan experience enhancements, security upgrades, accelerated points of entry, and concession refinements. An AstroTurf playing field was laid down in June and the stadium was repainted. When coming into the stadium, fans will encounter new ticket scanning pedestals and parking lot spaces will be restriped prior to the first game. The City is repairing all potholes or cracks throughout the stadium's parking lots. The stadium also had a full pressure washing of all public spaces within the venue, which includes the seating bowl, concourses, restrooms, entry gates, and ramps. Part of a round of ongoing technology additions will include new high-definition TV monitors throughout the stadium's premium areas, and the addition of AT&T to the stadium's distributed antenna system (DAS) for cell phone service. "We want our football fans in Memphis to have the best experience possible when they go and watch a game," Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said in a press release. "We're proud of the investments we've made to the field and proud to have Simmons Bank as the stadium sponsor." Other ways the City is hoping to improve the fan experience and keep patrons safe at the stadium include the following: New partnerships with High Noon vodka seltzers and Mighty Swell malt seltzers to bring additional beverage options to the stadium Rebranding of the craft beer stand at Section 129 in an expanded partnership with Grind City Brewing Co. Adding hot food items to stadium's grab-and-go stands, and the addition of a fourth grab-and-go location at Section 107 All new cushioned folding chairs for ADA platforms All persons will undergo magnetometer screening with handheld devices at all entry points to the stadium. Clear bags are still required. All concession transactions are cashless, accepting Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The current improvements and upgrades to the stadium are separate from the large-scale plan for $150 million to $200 million in renovations that the University of Memphis and the City announced in May. Arkansas-based Simmons Bank agreed in February to pay the City a total of $6.8 million over the next 10 years for naming rights. "Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium represents a critical element to the renaissance project taking place surrounding this area and many others across the city," George Makris Jr., chairman and CEO of Simmons Bank, said in the release. "We are very proud of our partnership with the City of Memphis and the investments that have been made to improve the fan experience and to ensure the future of the stadium that serves as a tribute to our veterans." _________________________________________________________ *The bid list for this project may be incomplete.
