The City of San Gabriel is located approximately 10 miles northeast of the City of Los Angeles within the western San Gabriel Valley sub region of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area and was incorporated in 1913 as a general law city which operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of five members who are elected at large serving a staggered term of four years. The City provides a full range of municipal services including police and fire protection, engineering and planning, street maintenance, traffic control, code enforcement, parks and recreation services, and general administrative activities. Today, San Gabriel is an ethnically and socio-economically diverse city. It is a built-out community and, as a result, new development is almost entirely adaptive reuse, intensification, and replacement. It has not experienced significant population growth since the 1990s, a decade during which the City grew by 7.3 percent and added nearly 2,700 new residents. During the 2000s, San Gabriel's population increased by on l y 0 .3 percent. The City encompasses 4.1 square miles of predominately flat land area with a population of 41,255 and is developed with a mix of residential and commercial uses, as well as limited institutional, industrial and parkland uses. The volume of work will be determined by the number and type of applications submitted to the City of San Gabriel which require architectural review. There is no guaranteed level of work implied.
