Indian School Park is located slightly west and to the east of Hayden Road between Indian School Road and Camelback Road. Indian School Park (ISP) opened on January 19, 1980, transforming a serious flood hazard into one of the Valley's top residential and recreational areas. This 50-acre park was originally designed in partnership with the Army Corp of Engineers as part of the Indian Bend Wash flood control project. Amenities have been added incrementally over time and the community park now includes a tennis center, Club Sar (fitness center that used to house the City's unique amateur boxing program), a playground, racquetball and basketball courts, and the city of Scottsdale's Youth and Family Services Office, which also served as the Indian Bend Wash Visitors Center. Four full-sized baseball fields comprise a large portion of the park, which became the minor league home of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants built a clubhouse on the north end of Indian School Park and no longer utilize the fields or clubhouse. While the baseball fields are a great amenity to host tournaments and other activities, the infrastructure surrounding the fields is not designed for this type of activity. As amenities, services, and facilities were added over the years, there was no priority to master planning, operational, or service delivery. Currently, services and facilities stretch the half mile park, with staff managing Club Sar, the ISP Tennis Center, baseball activities, and the office space for Youth and Family Services. Some amenities, like shuffleboard courts, are outdated and seldom used and the park lacks popular amenities like pickleball courts. Club Sar has very low utilization, but a small, committed group of users feel fitness in the area is important. The City would like to evaluate and redesign Indian School Park to meet the current and future needs of our residents. It will provide a roadmap for future capital planning. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
