The Municipality of Temagami has identified the need to upgrade the existing Temagami North municipal sewage lagoons including the installation of an Ultraviolet (UV) effluent disinfection system. Tulloch Engineering Inc. (TULLOCH) has been retained to carry out the contract administration and services during construction. The Temagami North Lagoons site is located at 37 Cedar Avenue in Temagami North, Ontario. The Temagami North municipal sewage lagoons provide wastewater treatment for the residential community of Temagami North, serving approximately 300 residents. The lagoons are owned by the Municipality and operated by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). The existing treatment system is comprised of two aerated lagoons, a temporary chemical addition system and a sludge dewater area. As outlined in the ECA, Lagoon Cell #1 has a volume of 4,105 m3 with an approximately depths of 3.05 m and Lagoon Cell #2 has a volume of 20,950 m3 with an approximate depth of 1.5 m. Both lagoon cells are equipped with fine bubble diffusers for aeration fed from blowers located in a blower/electrical building. The chemical system doses ferric sulfate into Lagoon Cell #2 as required to control effluent pH. A UV disinfection system capable of a peak disinfection flow of 50 m3/hr comprised of two (2) banks delivering a UV dose of 30 mJ/cm2 at a UV transmittance of 55% is required to be installed in a control building under the construction contract.
