Creighton Mine is an underground nickel mine which is currently owned and operated by Vale Canada Limited in Lively, ON. The mine is currently the deepest nickel mine in Canada and is home to SNOLAB. SNOLAB is a Canadian underground science laboratory specializing in neutrino and dark matter physics. The current underground lab was developed and constructed in the late 1990s The SNOLAB expansion, completed in 2009 added an additional 6,300 m2 of excavations, of which 3,700 m2 is clean room space, attached to the existing facility. The clean/dirty boundary was moved for the expanded laboratory and some existing excavations were converted to additional clean space. Reconditioning and construction of the TAD drift and BAR airlock will add additional clean space to the laboratory footprint. A phased approach will need to be developed by the successful proponent with the assistance of the SNOLAB project manager in order to minimize interference with laboratory operations and maintain safe egress from both areas. The project consists of all required materials, equipment and manpower to complete drift reconditioning, shotcrete application, concrete floor/drain system and block wall construction within the Top Access Drift (TAD or Drift E) in Vale's Creighton Mine #9 Shaft. Painting of both the TAD drift and BAR airlock is also included in this scope. Refer to drawings and specifications for the full extent of work. Preferred start date: Immediately upon contract execution, expected late October 2022. Vale Planned Maintenance Period (PMP) noted as taking place from July to October 2023. There will be limited or no access underground for that time period. Proponents advised to be demobilized from site on or before May 31, 2023. Target completion date is still March 31, 2023.
