Project is for stabilizing an eroding ditch which is encroaching on a farm field access lane and consists of clearing, grubbing, site preparation, excavation, earth fill, rip rap, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, and miscellaneous associated work. General Nature of the Public Improvement: Exchange Street Streambank Improvements - Harlan, IA. Project number is 121.0200.09A and is located east of Exchange Street near the southeast corner of town. Project is for stabilizing an eroding ditch which is encroaching on a farm field access lane and consists of clearing, grubbing, site preparation, excavation, earthfill, rip rap, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, and miscellaneous associated work Major Items of Construction: o Mobilization - 75% upon move in, 25% upon final completion. o Clearing and Bank Shaping - Trees shall be cleared between October 15, 2022 and March 31, 2023. Removal of stumps is included in this project. Stumps and other woody material shall be disposed of properly. It will be important to minimize bank disturbance in areas away from rock placement and stump removal. DO NOT place fill in the stream channel except for areas designated for rock placement. o Earthwork - Some areas of streambank are designated for sloping, use any excess material to fill and shape in areas where large stumps have been removed or cutbacks are present. o Rip Rap (Revetment Stone) - Providing a good fit to the existing stream channel and banks is more important than the exact dimensions shown on the plans. Rock should be clean with smaller stones (less than 6"), gravel, and sand removed at the quarry. o Seeding and Mulching - Note that a cool season mix is specified. Hydro-seeding is preferred
