Site work and new construction of a pre-engineered storage facility in Brampton, Ontario. Conceptual plans call for site work for a pre-engineered storage facility; and for the construction of a 5,400-square-foot, one-story above grade pre-engineered storage facility.

The objective of this Bid call is to invite Contractor to build a Robison Barn at Historic Bovaird House, 563 Bovaird Drive East, Brampton. The contractor will design and build the barn. The Robinson Barn was built around 1875 in the Town of Caledon, and is a leading example of south-west Ontario, mid-nineteenth century agricultural architecture. The barn was built as a typical bank barn with a heavy timber drive-in floor and hayloft above a stone walled lower floor and foundation. In 2016, the Friends of Historic Bovaird House (FHBH) acquired the barn and disassembled it from its Caledon location with the purpose to reconstruct it at the Historic Bovaird House site. The Robinson Barn will be reconstructed as an A2 assembly occupancy building, in accordance with the Ontario Building Code & applicable standards and legislation. The intended purpose of the reconstructed building is to house historic agricultural vehicles and artifacts for display to the public. The building will provide guided interpretive presentations appropriate to the building's original purpose, representing the early agricultural history of the City of Brampton and the Region of Peel. Currently, the dismantled timber members of the Robinson Barn are being stored at the City of Brampton's Sandalwood Public Works Yard, at 120 Sandalwood Parkway. The barn's foundation stones are stored at the Works Yard Facility. City Staff retained specialist heritage architectural consultants to catalog, conserve and assess the structural adequacy of the dismantled timber members of the Robinson Barn. It was found that some of the surviving members would not meet current structural code requirements for an assembly occupancy building and that in addition to the Robinson Barn's surviving, usable timber members, additional heavy timber structural members are needed to reconstruct the original building. As such, the barn will be reconstructed from the usable parts of the original barn and materials sourced from another local, historic barn, subject to detailed structural review by the Design-Builder, as well as limited use of new materials where required. Accordingly, the combination of materials in priority sequence includes the following: i) Viable parts of the original Robinson Barn materials currently in storage at the City's facility ii) Material sourced from another City owned historic barn - the Porretta Barn, located at 2591 Bovaird Drive west iii) New materials only where necessary Substantial Performance of Work shall be by May 30, 2023. The City expects the completion of the total Project including design and construction to be below a maximum Design-Build budget of $530,000.
