Bowling Green State University ("the Owner") requests interested firms to submit qualifications for full comprehensive Design-Build (DB) services for adding air-conditioning to all existing student rooms within McDonald and Kohl Halls. McDonald Hall is a five story multi wing residence hall, built in 1962, it sits on the west side of campus between Thurstin Avenue and North College Drive. This portion of the project, to be completed in two phases, consists of adding airconditioning to 392 student rooms and common areas, adding DOAS rooftop ventilation units for further humidity reduction, and connecting the building to the existing Campus chilled water distribution loop. Kohl Hall is a 68,000 sq.ft., four story residence hall, built in 1938 with a substantial addition in 1962, it sits on south edge of campus at the intersection of West Wooster Street and South College Drive. This portion of the project consists of adding air-conditioning to 180 student rooms and common areas, adding DOAS rooftop ventilation units for further humidity reduction, and connecting the building to the existing Campus chilled water distribution loop. The McDonald/Kohl Hall Air Conditioning Project is anticipated to be a three phased project: Phase One = McDonald East Wing and the east half of the North Wing Phase Two = McDonald West Wing and the west half of the North Wing Phase Three = Kohl Hall Each phase will be completed prior to the next phase beginning, phase one to begin May 2023, with all three phases complete no later than July 2025. A conceptual cooling feasibility study was completed June 23, 2022. This study investigated the options and costs for adding air-conditioning to both residence halls, along with routing a new 14 inch buried HDPE chiller piping from the existing campus chilled water loop to the buildings.
