Background: 5,000 tons of rock salt is stockpiled at the West Des Moines shared facility located at 8850 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266. Scope of Work: Successful contractor to provide hauling services of road salt as needed, from the stockpile to various locations in District 1 as determined by IA DOT. See Line Items Award: One contract will be awarded for all lines. All items are tied. All lines must be bid. For evaluation purposes 300 tons are listed for each location on the schedule of prices. The Iowa DOT reserves the right to request any quantity to any delivery location as determined by needs, subject to winter weather. Delivery Information: Deliveries will be expected within five (5) working days after notification from either the District 1, District Maintenance Manager, or the Winter Operations Administrator. Loading at the West DSM facility will be done by West DSM staff and must be accomplished between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. All unloading will be done by the respective DOT garage staff. Hauler will coordinate with West Des Moines staff and DOT garage supervisors for loading & unloading times. All contact information will be provided to successful contractor. West DSM has loader mounted scale and will provide the loaded quantities. The IA DOT may request a digital scale compare/verify hauled quantity. Trailers must be clean and free of any inert materials. No side dumps will be accepted. Either belly dump or end dumps. Insurance Requirements: For independent contractors engaged solely in the transportation of materials, the minimum insurance coverage provided shall be not less than that required by Chapter 325A, Code of Iowa, for such truck operators or contract carriers as defined therein. The awarded contractor will be required to provide Certificate of Liability insurance listing the Iowa DOT as an additional insured. Contract: It is the intent of the Iowa DOT to award the contract to the responsible bidder whose submitted quotation is the most advantageous to the Iowa DOT, cost and other factors considered.
