Demolition, site work and new construction of a detention facility in Montreal, Quebec. Working plans call for the construction of a 300,945-square-foot, three-story above grade, 237-bed detention facility; for site work for a detention facility; and detention facility.
Construction of a new Montreal Women's Detention Facility for the replacement of the previously closed Maison Tanguay prison. The project includes the construction of a new facility on Tanguay Street between existing De Bordeaux and former Maison Tanguay prisons in order to accommodate an exclusively female clientele comprising 237 places. The total adjusted area of the new construction will be 27,865 m2. The project will be LEED certified. TIMELINE: Working drawings are ongoing. According to the owner's scheduling a tender for the general contractor for the project implementation is not anticipated before spring/summer 2026. Notes: - The value of the structural construction of the project is officially stated by the owner. The value of the construction program including the demolition of the former facility, construction of a new one, related civil engineering and other work amounts to $400 million. - The demolition of the Maison Tanguay prison has started and is followed in the report under CRM ID name Demolition of Maison Tanguay and Rerouting of City Pipes.
