As of August 8, 2024, construction is expected to begin in 2025. The Town of Windham ("Town") is soliciting proposals for engineering services for the Replacement of Varney's Bridge, Project, reference WIN 026240.00. The primary deliverables will be a preliminary design report (PDR), design plan impacts, and a final plans, specifications and estimate (PS&E) package. Proposers must provide a technical proposal and separate, sealed price proposal. No mention of price shall be included in the technical proposal; otherwise, that proposal shall be rejected in its entirety. Varney's Bridge is a 26-ft long steel girder bridge that carries William Knight Road over the Pleasant River, 0.43 mile from State Route 4/U.S. Route 202. Based on its age and condition, it was scheduled for either closure or replacement. It's an important bridge to the Town and its residents and therefore the Town has elected to replace it.
