Pikangikum Health Authority is issuing a Public Tender for the role of Construction Management Services for the new Women's and Children's Shelter. The work involves the construction of a new 1 storey - 8 500 square foot Women's and Children's Shelter in the community of Pikangikum. The Shelter will provide temporary housing and support services to members of the community seeking refuge from domestic violence. The Pikangikum Shelter is phase 1 of a multi-phase development that includes the construction of four 2nd stage housing units as well as shared outdoor play, community gathering and teaching areas. The Pikangikum Shelter site is located at the intersection of Airport and Hotel Road and is contiguous the Ontario Provincial Police Headquarters, near Pikangikum Lake. The project is required to achieve a minimum 25% reduction in energy use compared to the 2015 National Energy Building Code and provide a minimum 20% accessible units. The preliminary design anticipates a modular method of construction for the building components, supported on a screw pile foundation system and includes: - 5 self-contained residential units (1 accessible unit) - A communal kitchen, dining, family and play area - An administration wing with dedicated staff offices - A meeting / counselling room - Utility support spaces (laundry, storage, Mechanical and Electrical Rooms) Construction Budget: Approximately $3.9 million (includes site servicing and site works.
