Saving Project...

Site work and paving for a civil project in Pensacola, Florida. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The overall project consists of removing the clear zone portion of the existing runway south of Highway 98 and restoring the area to near-original Jones Creek floodplain elevations. Questions concerning this request should be directed to the Escambia County Purchasing Office in writing to Angela Jones at ajjones@myescambia.com prior to 5:00 PM CT. on January 16 2023. Escambia County Board of County Commissioners encourages all segments of the business community to participate in its procurement opportunities, including small businesses, minority/women owned businesses, and disadvantaged business enterprises. The Board does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sex, or age in the administration of contracts. The Board of County Commissioners reserves the right to waive irregularities in bids, to reject any or all bids with or without cause, and to award the bid that it determines to be in the best interest of Escambia County Any person requiring special accommodations to attend or participate, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, should call the Office of Purchasing (850-595-4980) at least five (5) working days prior to the solicitation opening. The excavation would be 2-4' below ground surface totalling approximately 50,000 CY. All excavation material will need to be hauled offsite. Only rough grading (+/- 0.25') with the excavator will take place. No work is to take place in surface waters. No dewatering is anticipated. An oyster shell staging area exists along the eastern side of the runway and shall be avoided by all construction activities. Access should be maintained to this area. The newly created floodplain will be reconnected with the existing wetland along the west side and at three "cuts" along Jones Creek. A 50' wide berm or dike with existing ground elevations will remain in place along the east side of the excavation site. Three large ponds and four shallow depressions will be graded out within the lower elevations of the site. Advantageous brush piles and loafing logs (18 inch diameter, 10 feet in length logs shown on page C-013 in plans) will be installed in strategic locations as noted in the plans on Sheet C-011. Native plantings will help stabilize the new grade and revert the area to a historically similar habitat. The project will utilize a phasing plan that will minimize impacts to the newly uncovered native soils. The phasing plan is designed to prevent over compaction to the native soils so that recruitment of desirable plants, establishment of plantings, and propagation of native seed beds can all have more opportunity for success.
