The cooling tower is an integral part of the overall campus cooling system, serving the entire campus. Both cooling tower cells are experiencing corrosion and degradation on the surface of the units along with the inlet louvers and fill. Installed in 1993, the cooling towers have exceeded typical life expectancy. The Pre-Design provides an assessment of the existing cooling towers including critical equipment and piping associated with the cooling towers., conceptual plans, a budget estimate for replacement of the towers, and a proposed project schedule. Key features of the project include: o Replacement of cooling tower; o Replacement of associated equipment such as variable speed drives, condenser water pumps and corroded piping; o Replacement of associated steel structure; o Patching roof penetrations to meet Minnesota State Facilities Design Standards; o coordination of work near existing Cell Tower; o post-construction repair of existing pavement, irrigation system and landscape. The project will be constructed in a single phase. The Owner intends to use the Design/Bid/Build delivery method. Construction funding is anticipated in an upcoming HEAPR request. The method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this time.
