What you need to know The majority of the bond, about $2.3 billion, is dedicated toward the modernization of facilities and schools, which will include security upgrades, repairs and technology improvements. A total of 25 modernization projects are part of the 2022 bond, which include full replacement campuses or major school renovations in addition to four open-concept campuses that are in need of renovation. Open-concept refers to campuses that include classrooms without doors or full walls, a choice that was popular in the 1970s, but will be renovated this year for safety reasons, according to a news release. In case you missed it On Dec. 12, the district hosted a "construction kickoff" for Odom Elementary School, marking the beginning of the school improvement projects funded by the bond. “These renovations will improve safety and security as well as the learning environment, enabling the school to better meet the needs of students and teachers today and in the future,” AISD superintendent lone finalist Matias Segura said in a news release. Odom Elementary was built in 1970, and its renovation will include a new entry at the front of the campus for security, new small group meeting spaces and will enclose classrooms that were built without doors or full walls. Oak Hill, Cook and Williams elementary schools are also being renovated for the same purpose.
