This work will be completed in two (2) phases. Phase I will include the intersection of Main Street and Broad Street and will be completed six (6) weeks after work begins. Phase II will include the intersection of Main Street and Chestnut Street and will be completed six (6) weeks after work begins. Each Bid must be accompanied by a bid guarantee which shall be not less than five percent (5%) of the largest amount of which Bid is made and, at the option of the Bidder, may be a certified check, bank draft, or bid bond. No bid will be considered unless it is so guaranteed. Certified check or bank draft shall be made payable to the City of Salem. Cash deposits will not be accepted. The bid guarantee shall insure the execution of the contract and the furnishing of performance and payment bonds by the Successful Bidder if required by the specifications. SPECIFICATIONS/SCOPE OF WORK The Work to be performed under this contract consists of the following: The replacement of one (1) existing traffic signal intersection at Main Street & Broad Street to include, but not limited to, furnishing, installing, removing and replacing items in accordance with the 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications This includes, but is not limited to, conduit and junction boxes, traffic signal heads, pedestrian actuation, cameras, vehicle detectors, emergency vehicle preemption devices, uninterruptable power supplies, signal controllers and cabinets. The City will provide the mast arm poles, mast arm pole anchors, street name signs, pedestrian push buttons, fiber optic cables, Ethernet switches, traffic cabinet and controllers. Weather could delay these timeframes and will be adjusted accordingly per the City. The Successful Bidder will be responsible for setting up the staging area and keeping it clean and disposing of any waste during the duration of the Work. Intersections shall be passable at all times for both pedestrians and traffic. Closures, if needed, must be approved by the City. The cost of any permits, if applicable, is the sole responsibility of the Successful Bidder. Work can only be done during Electric Department's regular working hours. These hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. All other times must be approved by the City. No work will be done on Holidays. The City of Salem reserves the right to add or remove similar, related services to/from any resulting Contract, as it may deem necessary and appropriate, on an as needed basis.
