Scope The District and the School Board are created under Article IX, Section 4, of the Constitution of the State of Florida. The School Board is an independent taxing and reporting authority responsible for the operation, control and supervision of all free public schools within the school district, subject to the Florida K-20 Education Code, Chapters 1000 - 1013, F.S. The Board consists of five (5) elected officials responsible for, among other things, the adoption of policies, which govern the operation of District public schools. The elected Superintendent of Schools is responsible for the administration and management of the schools within the applicable parameters of state laws, State Board of Education Rules, and School Board policies. The District provides a standard, traditional curriculum to a student body of approximately 31,000 students ranging from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. LCSB also provides adult education at several facilities during regular and non-school hours. In addition to the standard curriculum, LCSB offers a variety of specialized technical training programs for the higher-grade levels.
