The roadway is currently a four-lane concrete road (Minor Arterial – Classification S4-D per Table 2-1 of The City of Sachse Engineering Design Manual), with two lanes for each direction of travel separated by landscaped median, with grass and mature trees. Mature trees are also present within 5 to 10 feet of pavement boundaries along each direction of travel. At the time of the field investigation, extensive cracking in the pavement was observed. Geotex was informed that the perceived cause of cracking was due to root growth from adjacent mature trees. The purpose of this geotechnical investigation is to provide recommendations for subgrade improvement and pavement design, as well as recommendations for a root barrier system to mitigate future distress from the adjacent trees.
