LOCATION OF PROJECT- The Work is located below the McDaniel Lake Dam on the little Sac River, 5101 N Farm Road 145 Springfield, MO 65803. The project consists of stabilizing 190 ft. of creek bank downstream of the McDaniel Lake Dam using gabion baskets and rip rap to protect an existing City Utilities 24-inch cast iron water main. The gabion wall is assumed to bear on bedrock below the channel, with a 9 ft. tall gabion basket wall as the typical section (base bid). However, depth to bedrock and depth of soils in the channel are anticipated to be variable. If the event bedrock is shallower, a shorter gabion wall can be constructed. In the event bedrock is deeper, up to a 12 ft. tall gabion wall is permissible (bearing on bedrock). Deeper bedrock may be a result of natural variability in the bedrock surface or in the event the excavated sidewall below the water main is not stable, the back of wall may need to be offset towards the center of the creek to maintain stability of the water main, with deeper bedrock anticipated in this situation. In any event, maintaining stability of the water main during gabion wall construction is required. A gabion wall (9 ft) bearing on creek gravel with the addition of a gabion mattress placed in front of the wall for scour protection is also permissible. The bid quantities below assume a 9 ft. tall gabion wall bearing on bedrock as the typical cross section, but unit prices for each of the alternate wall heights/types are also requested since several wall heights/types along the alignment may be required due to varying depth of bedrock and the stability of the sidewall below the water main. All other work items/expenses required to construct the project should be included in the bid unit line items on the bid form.
