As of June 11, 2024, this project is in the design phase. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined, but bidding is anticipated for late Fall 2024. A detailed scope has not yet been released. The grant will support plans now underway by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department to improve the 7.6-acre park located at 160 Norfolk Avenue. Goals for the park renovation include preserving active recreation fields and courts for sports like football, soccer, baseball, basketball, and tennis; improving sports lighting facilities' quality and efficiency by updating to LED fixtures; prioritizing safety through the addition of pedestrian lighting, cameras, and blue lights; introducing cooling elements for park users such as shade and access to water; increasing stormwater capacity through green infrastructure strategies; and providing a universally accessible playground. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
