Island Health's Mental Health and Substance Use Services ("MHSU") offers services to adults, youth, and children with serious mental illness and/or concurrent addiction throughout Vancouver Island. Providing appropriate accessible services is a priority. Programs range from acute and short-term to ongoing illness management, rehabilitation and support. Services are offered in the context of a wider support network including other government agencies, aboriginal health organizations, community partners, public agencies, friends and families. Island Health MHSU health care services include hospital, community, home care, and environmental and public health services. Safe, affordable, quality housing is essential to support people with mental illnesses and substance use issues as they regain their health and maintain their recovery. Most people want to live as independently as possible in their own home. Island Health MHSU has demonstrated that, with onsite clinical/rehabilitation support staff, many individuals with serious mental health and substance use challenges can live successfully and independently in their own apartment unit. Research has consistently indicated that by providing intensive supported living services to people with serious mental illnesses and substance use issues, these individuals have a better quality of life, improved health status and are less frequent users of health care services. To help ensure that a high standard of supported housing services are provided to MHSU clients, Island Health MHSU is seeking a service provider to supply residential landscaping services for a number of supportive housing units located in the greater Victoria region.
