Invitation and Project Description The City of Sandusky, represented by the Department of Community Development - Division of Recreation invites qualified Architectural and Engineering Design Firms or teams with equivalent qualifications and expertise, to submit qualifications to determine the location and design of a new Recreation/ Community Center. The site must be centrally located and large enough to contain most, if not, all the programs envisioned by the Residents, Commissioners and City staff. It has been expressed that the new facility includes both indoor and outdoor recreation programs and events. Citywide community engagement will be critical component to the site selection and site program confirmation. In 2007, the City contracted with Pros Consulting to do a comprehensive strategic master plan of its parks and recreation system to address its current and future needs. Through this report it was determined that the residents desire an indoor facility that would provide room for activities such as an indoor running and walking track, wellness center, exercise room, fitness classes, basketball and volleyball courts and if possible, an indoor water amenity. A burgeoning partnership with the City Schools will likely locate a new aquatic center at the high school whereby through a public use agreement, residents may enjoy water activities at that facility. Estimated Project Cost Estimated total project cost for the Rec/Community Center: $8- $10 million. Estimated total cost for Site Selection and Conceptual Design: $100,000 - $200,000. Estimated total cost for Final Design Services: $1 - $1.25 million. Estimated total project cost for Construction Administration $500,000 - $900,000.
