Request for Qualifications for the Main Campus 13.8kV Switchgear Upgrade Technical Inquiries Due: 01/17/2023 - 2:00 pm The purpose of this project is to replace the existing 13,800V switchgear within the CHRP compound with a new pre-manufactured 13,800V switchgear house. This new switchgear house will go in place of Building 82 that will be demolished. The new switchgear house will sit on top of a new subgrade cable vault. Due to underrated medium voltage switches on campus, new 13.8kV current limiting reactors will be installed. New 13.8kV capacitors will also be installed to correct poor campus power factor that results in penalties by Tucson Electric Power (TEP). The project will enable the CHRP T70 turbine to have islanding capability. The new switchgear house will allow acceptance of new incoming 13.8kV power via a new TEP substation or a new University of Arizona (UA) substation. The finished project will also enable future growth of Main Campus with added circuits and underground raceways for future distribution.
