The City of Groveland is interested in hearing from qualified firms how to convert the historic Train Depot into a trailhead and civic landmark in the heart of the City's downtown.\ Groveland is a historic rural community located in southern Lake County, immediately adjacent to the City of Clermont and the ever growing Orlando regional marketplace. The City of Groveland is one of Florida's fastest growing communities, Groveland's population, up 149% from 2010 is 21,712 persons. The City's small-town feel, natural resources, recreational facilities and easy access to the Central Florida region and beyond has made Groveland a residential destination for young families and maturing households. As part of its overall economic development strategy, the City of Groveland is seeking a licensed Florida architect with experience in the preservation of historic buildings and adaptive reuse to design a plan with construction ready drawings and permits to convert the historic Train Depot into a trailhead and civic landmark in the heart of the city's downtown. The city is currently requesting state funding for the revitalization of the historic Train Depot to become a vibrant trailhead that anchors the state's prized Coast-to-Coast trail. The station is located at the midpoint of the trail per Bike Florida and will bring visitors from across the state to Groveland. After adoption of the City's first Strategic Plan in June 2022, Preservation and Conservation was identified as a top strategic priority in the city. In response, the city recently established a brand-new Conservation division within the Community Development Department to focus efforts on protecting and restoring the natural environment. The city seeks to simultaneously devote its efforts towards the preservation of historical buildings to stand as a nod to heritage and a monument to future development and growth. The single-story Craftsman style brick building was first erected a century ago and measures just 1,085 sq ft. Despite market forces that have shuttered the Train Depot for more than forty years, the structure today finds itself solidly at the strategic intersection of Florida's multimodal transportation system and a major East-West bicycle trail. With the appropriate funds the City would like to renovate the depot to become a homage to Groveland's history as well as a trailhead landmark.
