Renovation of an educational facility in Richmond, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University has identified approximately 3,300 sqm of the classroom, teaching support, office, passage, and common area spaces to be renovated to improve and update the overall experience for students, employees and visitors. A primary user of this space will be KPU’s Entertainment Arts program. The renovation will primarily focus on the interior space – the area that end users utilize. The upgrade will focus on the 2nd and 3rd-floor areas of the Richmond campus main building that have been designated for the suite of Entertainment Arts Programming. Both classroom space and offices for faculty, program assistants, and the Associate Dean responsible for Entertainment Arts will be required. The renovation will be required to be completed across 2 phases: Phase 1 relates to the 2nd Floor renovation, including the 3rd Floor Electrical and Communications rooms, and Phase 2 refers to the 3rd Floor renovation. Upgrading work should start on the 2nd Floor as the classroom space on the 3rd Floor is currently being used by students. Due to the critical impact of this project on classroom availability for the Fall Semester, the 2nd Floor renovations should be completed for Ready-for-Takeover by July 11th, 2023 and all construction for Phase 1 deficiencies flowing from the Readyfor-Takeover, must be completed by no later than August 24th, 2023. Once the 2nd Floor upgrade is complete, the classrooms can be outfitted with new furniture and KPU equipment. Upgrading on the 3rd Floor can begin once the 2nd Floor upgrade is complete. The University requires all the noisy construction work to be scheduled during weekends as the building is occupied and classes are scheduled throughout the construction period. The upgrades must deliver the digitally ready classrooms, including the necessary power and network connectivity to run 37 computers (35 students, plus 1 teaching assistant, plus 1 instructor) in each classroom. Each classroom must have workstations for 36 students, a teaching assistant, plus the instructor. In addition, one non-digital classroom will be required that is suitable for drawing, painting and working with other non-digital materials. KPU anticipates the project value to be between the range of $ 2.5 Million - $ 3 Million, including alternatives.
