Region: Central Region This federally funded project will resurface the Seward Highway from MP 0 to 8. On the Job Trainees/Apprentices (item 645): 2 Trainee(s), 1000 Hours Engineer's Estimate Range: Between $10,000,000 and $20,000,000 AKDOT - Seward Highway Mp 0-8 Pavement Preservation *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document. Seward Highway MP 0 is located at the southern end of downtown Seward. The first two miles are urban in nature, with curb and gutter sections, attached sidewalks and separated pathways, center two-way turn lanes, low posted speed limits, and flanked by residential and commercial development. The roadway transitions to a more rural nature between MP 2 and 4. North of MP 4, the roadway is a two-lane rural highway, with high posted speeds, rumple stripped shoulders, roadside ditches, and no turn lanes. Pedestrian facilities end at MP 5. The highway is flanked by undeveloped land and large lots. The existing pavement was constructed in 2006, with sections at the bridges constructed in 2003. The pavements is exhibiting signs of wear, including cracking and rutting. The Proposed Action would: Delineate project areas that will be disturbed Install temporary erosion and sediment control measures as needed Relocate utilities if necessary Re-pave the roadway Re-surface the bridges including new waterproofing membrane Replace curb ramps Replace striping Replace damaged or inadequate signage Replace culverts Repair minor bridge damage Reconstruct small digout sections of the roadway Replace guardrail Excavation to re-establish drainage Stabilize disturbed areas as work progresses, using temporary and permanent measures Stabilize all portions of the site with permanent, "final" measures Remove temporary erosion and sediment control measures. The overall DBE Utilization Goal is revised to 8.28 percent.
