Summary It is the intent of these plans and specifications to provide for a general contractor who shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary to perform in a professional manner for the 2023 SIDEWALK GAP PROJECT as described in the specifications and bid document. The scope of work for this project shall consist of placing new 5-foot concrete sidewalk sections in areas of the City's pedestrian network where there currently is a "gap". Construction will require removal of some existing sections of sidewalk to facilitate new sidewalk placement and cohesive pedestrian access. Work will involve removal, excavation, and preparation for placement of new 5-foot concrete sidewalk according to plans. All work to occur will take place within the City right of way. New sidewalk placement will be in accordance with the plan set, special provisions, MDOT Standard Detail R-28 and R-29 Series, and the 2020 MDOT Standard Specifications for Construction. Sidewalk ramps and landings are planned for installation at intersections and key crossing areas. Locations for work, with any specified dates when construction should occur, are as follows: Fraternity Village Drive: Dead End to W. Michigan Ave Construction should occur between May 1, 2023, and August 25, 2023 California Ave: Fraternity Village Dr to W. Michigan Ave Construction should occur between May 1, 2023, and August 25, 2023 1003 Berkshire Drive: In front of residency and approximately 200' either direction Harrison Street: E. Michigan Ave to Railroad Construction should complete before August 1, 2023 Park Street: Midtown Fresh Driveway to Balch St Springmont Ave: Barnard Ave to Oakland Dr New for the 2023 construction season will be the use of Porous Pave (TM) for hardscape restoration areas. Porous Pave (TM) allows for a permeable surface to be placed that requires little maintenance but allows for water infiltration. All necessary traffic control, labor, materials, tools, equipment, and other items incidental to the work being performed shall be included in the Contractor's unit price for this contract. Such items will not be bid or paid for separately but shall be included in the overall unit price. The bidder shall be responsible for the cleaning up of the job site and shall repair or restore all structures and property that may be damaged or disturbed during performance of the work to the satisfaction of the Public Services Department for the City of Kalamazoo. Drainage structure covers shall be salvaged and reused if in usable condition; otherwise, they shall be replaced. Where needed, all traffic control used for such operations as defined by the MMUTCD will be the responsibility of the bidder.
