The main building at the Empire Maintenance Facility is located southeast of the intersection of County Roads 3 and 46 in Rosemount, MN. The building was built in 2002 and has since had three additions. The building spans over 114,000 square feet. This campus houses the vast majority of County owned heavy equipment assets. Over 500 linear feet of trench drains were installed in the original construction of the building in 2002. These drains have been structurally compromised from the large amounts of road salts they take in while plow trucks are being stored and maintained. The current drains are 12" wide Zurn Z-882. There are fourteen existing 14' drains and two existing 10' drains in the vehicle maintenance area. There are also two 158' drains in the vehicle storage area. The Construction Budget for this Project is $250,000. Dakota County is seeking a design firm to find a solution to repair or replace the existing trench floor drains in the main building at our Empire Maintenance Facility. The drains are in the vehicle maintenance area and the vehicle storage area. The drains have become extremely degraded from the extended contact with road salts. The County would like to find a cost-effective solution to replace the existing drains with solution that is better able to handle the extended contact with road salt. The trench drains in the vehicle maintenance area are surrounded by in-floor heating lines. The proximity of these lines to the drains, create an added complexity to the solution of this project. Identifying the location of the in-floor heating lines and building a solution to leave them operational will be of the utmost importance.
