Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Kissimmee, Florida. Working plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.

The bidder shall provide for the complete Turn-Key Renovation of the Baseball & Softball Fields, to include replacement of all existing Bermuda Grass turf with all with Big Roll 42" or 48" certified TifWay 419 Bermuda grass or approved alternate Bermuda grass within the boundaries of the baseball & softball Fields, located at Poinciana High School, 2300 South Poinciana Blvd., Kissimmee, Florida 34758. Reference Drawings provided as Attachment 1. Qualified bonded Sports Turf installer whose work has resulted in successful Sports Turf establishment. The Sports Turf installer shall either be a Certified Sports Turf Manager or shall have provable experience for a minimum of 5yrs. of Sports Turf installations at High School, College, or professional competition sports fields. The bidder must provide a list of five (5) relevant projects (Baseball & Softball Renovations) completed within the last 4 years that are the same or similar of this magnitude. Failure to supply list may be cause for the bid to be considered non-responsive. Board Approval of Bid Award - April 11, 20233 Project Start Date - May 22, 2023 Bermuda Grass Must be Installed by - July 7, 2023 Substantial Completion Date - September 22, 2023 Final Completion Date - October 2, 2023 EXISTING MATERIAL REMOVAL The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the safe removal, hauling and appropriate disposal of existing ground covering materials removed as a result of this project. Before any removal is to take place, the CONTRACTOR shall coordinate with the assigned SCHOOL DISTRICT representative to ensure this activity does not interfere with any other events or projects in progress at the facility as applicable. FIELD RENOVATION SERVICES The CONTRACTOR shall provide the following services: a) Handle and coordinate all mobilization. b) Apply 2 applications of Roundup + Fusilade II nonselective herbicides at full label rates to all Bermuda grass turf to be removed. The first application will be applied at a minimum of 14 days prior to schedule of surface removal. The second application to occur no less than 4 days prior to schedule of surface removal. c) Sprinklers shall be marked, and it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to maintain these markings. Contractor shall be responsible for repair and/or replacement of any damage to sprinklers or sprinkler system. Contractor to perform a pre-construction inspection of the irrigation system to insure of its operational status and that no repairs are needed. If any repairs are deemed necessary, these are to be reported to the District Representative for appropriate repair methods. Minor final field adjustments of sprinkler head arcs are to be performed by contractor and to be included in the bid. Identify and remove all irrigation heads and valve boxes prior to field stripping and remove all base anchors, home plate and pitcher's mounds. d) Mill the designated area with a mechanical harvest device (such as field top maker) approximately 1 inch in depth. e) Stripped Biomass to be hauled and disposed to the District owned site behind the Transportation Department located at 401 Simpson Road, Kissimmee, FL 34744 and spread out. f) Contractor to provide alternate unit price for installing both 4" trunk lines to tie into 6" main line perforated drain piping. Drainpipe to be ADS N-12 or approved equal installed in a 12" x 12" trench backfilled with 10" of USGA approved #89 granite drainage stone and topped with 2" of USGA coarse construction sand. Contractor to include a unit price to core drill any existing structures for drain line tie-in. g) Rototill existing soil and additives to minimum 8 inches in depth. h) Compact to normal sports field standards, approximately 85% proctor. i) Perform laser grade with tractor mounted auto leveling equipment. All Field turf areas to be graded with 1% fall toward edges. Perimeter between track and field shall be positive draining to existing field drains with no greater than 2% slope beyond limits of playing surface. j) Contractor to re-install irrigation heads, set to proper grade, and insure all are fully functional prior to sod installation. Contractor to confirm grades of all valve boxes, drains, etc. are set to exact finish grade prior to sod installation. Replace all disturbed irrigation components to restore a properly functioning irrigation system. Repair/Replace any irrigation heads, pipes etc. if any damage is occurred during construction. (Turnkey irrigation system in working order.) k) Layout infield and outfield to high school regulation specifications for baseball and softball fields --including new base installation, pitchers mount and home plate. Cut out infield to a 6" depth and install new clay:80/20 for infield areas and 64/40 mix for pitcher's mound and Homeplate areas along with run ups (Home to 1st base and 3rd base to home plate for baseball infield only). Contractor to supply samples and test reports to be approved prior to delivery and installation of any clay materials. Add Turface elite or approved equal soil conditioner to top 1/2" to 1" inch skin of infield at the rate of 1 ton per infield. Apply per manufacturers installation recommendations. Existing clay maybe used for a base but needs to be adequately tilled before new clay is used to establish finish grade. o Raise outfield of baseball field to match infield height with proper grade for drainage 1% slope. Use a 50/50 Mix - Shall be 50% USGA Sand and 50% mature Compost. The compost shall be pressurized at temperatures exceeding 131F for several weeks during composting. The compost should be free of viable weed seeds and plant pathogens. It should be stable and screened to a minimum particle size of 1/8 inch. o ASTMD, pH range of 5.5 to 6.5, for Bermuda Turf a minimum 5 percent organic material content: free of stones and other extraneous materials harmful to plant growth. o Lower softball field to match the floor elevation of dugouts. Lower irrigation to correct height. l) Till and laser-grade the infield turf and outfield areas. Laser-grade non-turf areas in front of dugouts. Add any necessary pre-plant soil amendments / root zone mix. m) Furnish and install Big Roll Certified Weed Free Tifway 419 Bermuda while removing the back netting during installation. Bermuda grass to have a 60 day grow in period. Timeline starts after all sod has been installed. n) Ensure all seams are tight as possible while installing. Any gaps in seams greater than 3/4 " will not be acceptable. o) Trim and roll said sod with a three (3) ton roller. p) Contractor will be responsible for any damage to irrigation system while performing the above tasks. GROW PLAN 60 day - Establishment & Maintenance Period Staffing: Grow in Contractor to have experienced personnel to be on site per the following schedules: First two-three weeks of establishment: Minimum of 3 days per week for a minimum of 1 hr. After that period and for the remainder of contract: Minimum of 2-3 days per week for a minimum of 2 hrs. IRRIGATION The first two - three weeks are the most crucial time for turf establishment. All irrigation needs will be assumed by the grow-in contractor immediately after installation of sod. Irrigation cycles to be executed that provides proper moisture requirements for establishing bermudagrass turf. Irrigation system will be inspected at every site visit during the first two weeks of establishment and once a week for the remainder of contract. This will confirm proper sprinkler head operation, adjustments, and program run times. MOWING Mowing will commence after the sod has demonstrated adequate rooting and establishment. o Mowing to be performed with reel type mower. o Cutting height to be maintained at the height of 1" unless directed different by owner. o Mowing frequency will be based upon growth rate, But the minimum mowing is 2X per week. o Grass clippings will not be allowed to accumulate. If clippings are accumulated will need to be removed. ROLLING Rolling of the fields will be performed immediately after the initial sod installation and a minimum of 4 additional times during the establishment period at times deemed beneficial for turf leveling. FERTILIZATION The sod will be fertilized every 3 weeks using fertilizer materials required for proper establishment of bermudagrass sod. Grow in contractor to perform a nutritional test prior to sod installation. Any deficiencies to be addressed during the grow in period. Pre-plant fertilizer will include a single application of DAP at the rate of 150 lbs per acre and 15-0-15 with .67% Ronstar at the rate of 300 lbs per acre. Additional applications to be made using 22-2-11 or similar at the rate of 3/4 #N/M per application. Minor elements to be applied per needs of the soil test. Liquid fertilizers can be used in conjunction with granular products. PEST CONTROLS The turf is to be inspected weekly by trained personnel for insect activity. The primary concern during establishment is damage from armyworms, sod webworms, mole crickets, and fire ants. Grow in contractor to apply broad spectrum insecticide treatments when necessary. MEMATODE TREATMENTS The new turf is not expected to require any treatments for parasitic nematodes. If nematode injury is suspected, grow in contractor to perform a nematode test and provide results to owners with treatment and cost recommendations. Any treatments deemed necessary will be in addition to the base cost of the grow in contract. WEED PRESSURES Due to the fact the rootzone material will not be fumigated, weed pressures are expected to be moderate. Grow in contractor to include a second application of Ronstar pre-emergent herbicide at approximately 45 days +/- after the initial pre-establishment application. There may be instances of other weeds appearing that will require post-emergent herbicide applications. These are to be applied as needed for proper control and are to be included as part of the turf establishment program. TOPDRESSING All bermudagrass turf will be top-dressed at a depth of 1/4 " (46 tons per acre) with sports field sand using precision application equipment designed exclusively for topdressing athletic turf. RECORD KEEPING Contractor will maintain a detailed work log for all maintenance activities and submit a final completion report to owner. Reject All Bids, the lowest bid exceeds the budget for this project. The District will rebid when additional funding is available.
