The new chiller plant will be a traditional site-built facility designed to accommodate four chillers, including two salvaged from the existing modular plant. All associated pumps and electrical infrastructure will be housed inside the plant. The project will also feature new fielderected cooling towers with concrete basin and replacement of the exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS) on the existing 2.75 million-gallon thermal energy storage tank. The new chiller plant will be connected to the existing underground chilled water loop. The construction will require extensive phasing and temporary utilities to minimize the outage duration of the chilled water system. The new chiller plant will be located at 419 North Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC. The HEQ Plant is located at 412 North McDowell Street, Raleigh, NC. The renovation of the HEQ Plant will involve abatement of hazardous materials, removal of four steam boilers and associated ancillary equipment, and the installation of a single summer boiler to supplement and provide redundancy to DOA's primary central steam plant during the warmer months. The new plant will require new utilities including a sewer line that will require a jack and bore underneath N McDowell St. The HEQ Plant will also undergo moderate architectural and aesthetic improvements to enhance its appearance. The Main Boiler Plant, adjacent to the HEQ Plant will require new feedwater pumps and piping for their four water tube boilers.
