This project consists of a main upgrade from the upper Sanchez area to the Sanchez Bridge. We are working with USDA Rural Development to partially grant fund the design and construction. The Preliminary Engineering Report is in progress, this is one of the USDA RD funding requirements. This project has been assigned to a new USDA RD Engineer, they are now requiring small-asset report, which is currently underway. This additional requirement will delay the design. With the findings of the study the existing 12" line will be upgraded. This will increase our conveyance capabilities and replace approximately 7 miles of 65 year old existing pipeline. The current conditions will not allow us to run more than 1250gpm, the upgrade will increase our conveyance by 800gpm or possibly more. When Bonita is at full capacity it runs at 1250gpm, Clonts and Bluff cannot run at the same time. The figures are preliminary and will be updated as design progresses. As of March 17, 2023, this project is included in the City of Safford's FY 2022-2026 CIP. Information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed. Although a firm timeline for construction has not been determined, construction is not expected to start prior to fiscal year 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
