The project includes all work necessary to remove the existing bridge and install the new culvert structure, make channel improvements, and address roadway needs in this Broadmoor neighborhood. The project will provide a larger channel opening for conveyance, as proven when water overtopped the road during a 2013 storm event. The improvements will address a condition issue, improve safety, and allow for continued use of Hunters Lane for public access over the creek crossing. The bridge is located in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, about 1/2 mile east of the Broadmoor Hotel, and adjacent to the Colorado Springs School. The City obtained Highway User Trust Funding (HUTF) for the project and will also utilize PPRTA Emergency Bridge Funds. Improvements by the Contractor include installation of a 2-cell concrete box culvert, wing walls, and guardrail with all removals, earthwork, grading, backfill & compaction, gutter, asphalt paving, channel and drainage improvements, fencing, signing, rock staining and landscape restoration. The project also has removal of obstructions, removal of trees, culvert toe walls / head walls, temp fence, water control, and other items. The work shall include the disposal of all surplus or waste materials and all traffic control/ barricading required. Cold weather protection shall be incidental to unit prices of work items to be performed and not paid for separately. Full restoration of all areas disturbed by the construction activities shall be returned to a condition better than the preconstruction condition. The Contractor shall be required to coordinate with the Colorado Springs School, property owners, and utility companies. The Contractor shall obtain all permits and furnish all transportation, materials, tools, equipment, labor and supplies necessary to complete this improvement project in an efficient and workmanlike manner as shown and specified in these documents. The Contractor shall be responsible for verification and acceptance of the existing site conditions prior to proposing on the project. The Contractor shall notify the engineer 48 hours prior to the commencement of onsite construction activities The Contractor shall be responsible for all work, whether it be performed by himself or by others under a subcontract agreement. All work required to construct the items in this contract shall be performed in a careful and orderly manner with due consideration given to protection of all adjoining property, the public and workmen. Any damage to streets, utilities, public or private property, or the survey benchmarks and construction staking due to the negligence of the Contractor, shall be repaired and restored to its original condition by the Contractor at his expense to the satisfaction of the Engineer. It will be the Contractor's responsibility to ensure that areas not in conflict with new work are not disturbed or damaged during the construction process. Miscellaneous excavation shall not be paid for separately but shall be included in the unit price of the work.
