Reference Number: 0000315229 Built in the 1970s, the West Fillmore Bridge is a 48" diameter Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) located just west of Coronado High School (25' below roadway). The structure carries Mesa Creek under the 25-foot-high roadway embankment where West Fillmore Street is located. Replacement is needed as the structure is at the end of its service life. The City paved the invert of the pipe with concrete a few years ago as a short-term fix. The replacement approach for the project will be to install a new pipe under the roadway due to the depth of the culvert under the roadway. Improvements by the Contractor include installation of a 72" reinforced concrete pipe and headwalls approximately 15 feet west of the existing pipe. A boring/tunneling approach is to be used for the project per the construction documents. In addition, all removals, earthwork, grading, backfill & compaction, channel improvements, water quality, and erosion control requirements. The project also has removal of obstructions, removal of trees, abandonment of the existing culvert, temp fence, water control, and other items. The proposed crossing is planned to accommodate future widening of Fillmore Street by designing culvert ends that can be easily extended.
