The Ministry is seeking the provision of Construction Services for the extension of the waste fill area at the Havilland Waste Disposal Site (WDS). The WDS is located on Crown land in the north half of the southwest quarter of Section 38, Havilland Township, District of Algoma. It is directly west of Highway 17 approximately 20 km north of the City of Sault Ste. Marie. The work will include preparing the base of a large area to the north of the current fill area so that deposition of waste can begin in the years following 2023-24. The construction work will include tree/shrub removal, grubbing of vegetation, stumps and roots, ditching, excavation of topsoil, and grading, as well as decommissioning of 5 groundwater monitoring wells and installation of 1 replacement well. The construction work will also include excavation and onsite burying of a stand of Japanese Knotweed (an invasive shrub) located within the current fill area.
