All work on this Contract is to be completed "within 90 days after the date of the Notice to Proceed". Bidders Questions due by: Monday 04/17/2023 College Responses due by: Wednesday 04/19/2023 Bids must be submitted in duplicate in accordance with the instructions contained in the Information for Bidders. Security will be required for each bid in an amount not less than five (5) percent of the Total Bid. It is the policy of the State of New York and the State University of New York to encourage minority business enterprise participation in this project by contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, and all bidders are expected to cooperate in implementing this policy. Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Set Aside: No Minority Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 22.17% Women Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 7.83% Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Contracting Goal: 6% Business entities awarded an identical or substantially similar procurement contract within the past five years: Bidders Questions due by: Monday 04/17/2023 The work to be done under the Contract, in accordance with the Contract Documents, consists of performing, installing, furnishing and supplying all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals necessary or convenient for the construction of Project Number IFB#SOW033023, titled Fire Suppression work at AV Bldgs and carry out all of the duties and obligations imposed upon the Contractor by the Contract Documents. The main features of the work shall include, but not be limited to the following: Replacement of five (5) existing kitchen hoods in four (4) separate Academic Village Dormitories {one dormitory has two (2) hoods in its kitchen). Existing hoods, which are installed directly above existing electric stoves, do not comply with NYS Building and Fire Code requirements since they do not consist of required fire suppression type equipment. This work is required in the following Dormitories: #5 Simon Bolivar Hall- Residential Space #7 Theodore Roosevelt Hall - Residential Space #8 Martin Luther King Hall - residential Space #9 Susan B. Anthony Hall - Laundry Room Space {which has two {2) separate hoods over two {2) separate stoves) All four (4) locations presently have an installation consisting of the following: o Counter tops & sinks w/ hot and cold piping connected to existing building water supply. o Drainage piping from sinks connected to building drainage system. o One residential- type electric {220v) 36" stove with (4) burners and oven with wall receptacle {Note: Dormitory #9 has two {2) stoves with exhaust hoods in place above stoves. The other three {3) dormitories only have one (1) stove and one {1) exhaust hood. None of the exhaust hoods have fire suppression equipment as required by NYS Code). o Exhaust piping from each hood is installed and extended to the outside at each location. o This piping is to be examined for compliance with theCode and its compatibility (sizing) with the new fire suppression exhaust hoods that are required in this modification. o Overhead wood cabinets and under countertop wood cabinets o Two (2) 120 v dual receptacles on wall above counter o Electrical circuit breakers for stove and receptacles are located in electric panels another room off the hallway outside of room where kitchen is located. The following is a summary of work that SUNY Old Westbury requires to be performed to successfully complete the installation of all four (4) kitchens: o Remove all existing exhaust fan units {5 total) located above each stove. o Evaluate the exhaust piping presently installed to be sure it will be compatible with the new fire suppression hood assembly. The existing 3" diameter piping may require upsizing to the outside at each location which in turn would require enlarging holes through the building concrete. o Confirm that the existing electrical supply will be sufficient for proper operation of the fire suppression hood assemblies in all dormitories. o Supply and install new fire suppression hoods at each location above existing stoves. Hoods shall exhaust from the top of the unit. All work is to comply with the 2020 NYS Building Code for an R-2 Occupancy as outlined below. o 420.10 - Group R-2 Dormitory Cooking Facilities Domestic cooking appliances for use by residents of Group R-2 college dormitories shall be in accordance with Sections 420.10.1 and 420.10.2. 420.10.1 Cooking Appliances where located in Group R-2 college dormitories, domestic cooking appliances for use by residents shall be in compliance with all of the following: o Cooktops and ranges shall be protected inaccordance with Section 904.13. o Cooktops and ranges shall be provided with a domestic cooking hood installed and constructed in accordance with Section SOS of the Mechanical Code of New York State. o [Fl 904.13.1 - Protection From Fire - Cooktops and ranges shall be protected in accordance with Section 904.13.1.1 or 904.13.1.2. o [Fl 904.13.1.1-Automatic Fire-Extinguishing System The domestic recirculating or exterior vented cooking hood provided over the cooktop or range shall be equipped with an approved automatic fire-extinguishing system complying with the following: 1. The automatic fire-extinguishing system shall be of a type recognized for protection of domestic cooking equipment. Pre-engineered automatic fireextinguishing systems shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL-300A and installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 2. Manual actuation of the fire-extinguishing system shall be provided in accordance with Section 904.12.1. 3. Interconnection of the fuel and electric power supply shall be in accordance with Section 904.12.2. o [Fl 904.13.1.2 Ignition Prevention Cooktops and ranges shall include burners that have been tested and listed to prevent ignition of cooking oil with burners turned on to their maximum heat settings and allowed to operate for 30 minutes. The automatic /ireextinguishing system shall be of a type recognized for protection of domestic cooking equipment. Pre-engineered automatic /ire-extinguishing systems shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 300A and installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 1. The contractor will be responsible for testing all units. A standard warranty from hood manufacturer will be provided to SUNY Old Westbury. 2. Fire Suppression Hoods are to be manufactured by NYC Metro Accurex, Guardian Safety Solutions International or equal. 3. Contrqctor shall submit the following to SUNY Old Westbury before work is begun: a. Fire Suppression Hood Assembly with all appurtenances b. Exhaust duct to outside of building c. Operating and maintenance manuals for the fire suppression hood system d. Manufacturer's shop drawings depicting all components of the fire suppression system.
