The 24th Street Bridge (located near the Mid-State Fairgrounds that crosses over the Union Pacific Railroad) was constructed in 1959 as a two-lane (one for each direction) bridge with a narrow sidewalk and no bike lanes. In November 2015, Caltrans awarded the City a federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP) grant for an upgraded and expanded bridge which will improve safety and throughput as well as accommodate a pedestrian sidewalk and bike lanes in both sides. Even though the City received a grant for this project, there is a local match requirement of approximately 10-20%. For the upcoming fiscal year, staff will continue with the design and soft costs of the project and will also begin to acquire the right-of-way necessary for the construction of the new bridge. Estimated costs and funding, by fiscal year, is shown below. Project is included in the City of Paso Robles' FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
