The Justice Complex comprises five (5) buildings which includes the Barrie Jail (B16235) at 71 Mulcaster Street, the Land Registry Office (B16233) at 114 Worsley Street, the Services Wing (B17873) at 75 Mulcaster Street, the Barrie Courthouse (B20893) and Courthouse Addition (B92347) at 75 Mulcaster Street. The Barrie Courthouse (B20893) is a 5-storey, 122,234 square foot building constructed in 1976 including the penthouse level. The building is built on a slope and has 2-stories are partially below grade. The courthouse replaced the original, century old, courthouse in 1976 at the same location. Barrie Courthouse is considered the primary building. Under the primary building site domestic water, storm water drainage, sanitary water, incoming underground power, parking lots, pedestrian walkways and site lighting are captured. No roadways are included as they are part of the city's streets surrounding and passing through the property. Building is typically occupied from 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays for the tenant and public with typical occupancy of 200 staff and additional 300 visitors to courtrooms and public spaces. Barrie Courthouse's electrical, HVAC, domestic water, sanitary, storm piping and fire alarm systems also serve the Courthouse Addition (B92347), Service Wing (B17873) and a portion of the Land Registry Office (B16233). The intent of the project is to install two (2) 14,000 Gal Tanks for storm water retention storage.
