The new Art & Innovation facility is a steel framed structure to house spaces supporting learning and creative activities for Art & Design as well as Engineering and Computer Sciences at ASU. Comprised primarily of studio spaces, the building will also feature a slopped floor lecture classroom, printing / fabrication workshop, computer classrooms, faculty offices, and a café space. Substantial use of high-performance glazing with low iron glass (both exterior and interior) will enhance use of daylighting and encourage visual awareness and collaboration of creative endeavors throughout the building. The total heated and cooled space is anticipated to be approximately 43,000 GSF. The building will be located on the east side of the main pedestrian access through the campus, and immediately south of the existing Fine Arts building, on land currently used for paved parking Exterior landscaping and hardscape are anticipated to be an important attribute of the project, with some studio spaces incorporating operable walls opening directly onto garden or plaza areas. In addition, the existing pedestrian access running east / west along the south face of the existing Fine Arts building, linking the Windgate 3D Arts Building with the center of campus, will be improved and enhanced. Interior spaces will, over-all, have a utilitarian / industrial aesthetic, with finished concrete floors and exposed structure and MEP systems in most areas, however, acoustic considerations are very important and quiet HVAC systems components are required to maintain suitable low noise floor levels for instruction and learning. The building will be connected to the campus chilled water loop for airconditioning and will utilize boilers located withing the building for hot water generation. The estimated cost of construction is 17 million, with anticipation construction starting February 2024, and completed by July 2026.
