Century High School, located at 355 Ronsdale Road, Sykesville, MD and Winters Mill High School located at 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster, MD are both part of the Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS). Both schools were built in the early 2000's and are of identical construction. The buildings are composed of several facade types, including brick and block masonry, as well as EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finishing System). The purpose of this project is to replace sealant at building expansion joints, masonry joints, EIFS control joints, EIFS joints at interfaces with masonry, and cast stone head joints. The purpose of this project is to replace sealant at building expansion joints, masonry joints, EIFS control joints, EIFS joints at interfaces with masonry, and cast stone head joints. The Base Bid scope of work generally consists of the following: Replace ALL sealant and backer rod at the following areas (including areas above the roof elevation): a. Building Expansion Joints b. Masonry Facade Expansion Joints c. Existing Sealant Joints in EIFS Facade d. EIFS to Masonry Interfaces (both horizontal and vertical joints) (Photo 1) e. Head Joints of Cast Stone Decorative Band (Photo 1) f. Outside Corner of Masonry with Existing Sealant (Photo 2) Most joints are a width of 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. However, some larger expansion joints are 1 inch to 1.5 inches in width. Install new sealant at ALL vertical EIFS v-groove joints that do not have sealant (Photo 3). The purpose of this sealant is to cover current, or future cracks that may form, in the EIFS control joints. No backer rod or bond breaking tape is necessary in EIFS v-groove joints. Replace the window or door jamb sealant if it is lined up with building or masonry expansion joints (Photo 4). This is not necessary when installing sealant in EIFS control joints.ALTERNATE 1: Replace remaining jamb and head sealant of windows/doors where building or masonry expansion joints are replaced (Photo 4) All work shall be done in accordance with industry standards, including the Sealant, Waterproofing and Restoration Institute (SWRI).
