Renovation of a municipal facility in Warwick, Rhode Island. Working plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.

The Conimicut Lighthouse was built in 1883. The lighthouse is only accessible via water, sited approximately 1/2 mile from the shore of Conimicut Point Park in Warwick, RI. The structure continues to serve as a navigational beacon, warning ships of the Conimicut Point Shoal, a long sandbar which extends from Conimicut Point Park to the Light. The City of Warwick took possession of the lighthouse in 2004 under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000 (NHLPA). The lighthouse has been unoccupied since 1963 and requires significant renovation in order to reconstitute the lighthouse to a weather-tight condition. The installation of an education kiosk component is an equitable, safe, and accessible way to educate residents and visitors about the significance of this historic landmark without having to physically visit or enter the lighthouse structure. The project scope includes weatherization, painting, improvements to the Jetty, railing replacements, installation of an educational kiosk at Conimicut Point Park, and associated ADA access enhancements. Work will be performed on the lighthouse structure in accordance with all RIDEM, EPA, and City of Warwick requirements. Access to the kiosk and all associated interpretive signage will fully comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to allow all visitors equal opportunity to learn about the history of this important feature and appreciate the lighthouse in its natural setting. Costs that must be included in the scope of work are: A. Mobilization and construction of a marine-environment work platform around the lighthouse. B. Repair landing jetty for safe arrival. C. Repair all exterior railings on all levels D. Prepare (including removal of all mill scale) and repaint all exterior surfaces with base, intermediate, and finish epoxy coats. E. Edge nosing and repair to exterior cast iron caisson and columns. F. Repair cast iron roof (including new cornice and gutters). G. Replace new bracket hardware and finials (nine new, with original to be used as plug for mold). H. Repair battens at observation deck. I. New 4" concrete pour on main with neoprene top coating. J. Repair doorways in main deck, observation deck, and lantern room. K. Repair vents, glass, and ceiling in lantern room. L. Removal of asbestos, if necessary. M. Install interactive kiosk at Conimicut Point Park. Qualifications shall be inclusive of all labor, materials, planning, engineering, permitting, mobilization, water transportation, and equipment to restore the Conimicut Lighthouse exterior and installation of informational kiosk.
