During the initial construction of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute it was decided to reduce the original number of animal holding rooms by combining two smaller rooms on the third floor: 3213 and 3214 into a larger 3214. At this same time, it was decided to keep the larger 3214, 3216, and 3219 as shell construction to help reduce overall cost of project as there was not an immediate need for these spaces. The goal of this new project is to provide the design to complete these spaces based on the original design. Also, on the third floor the design will provide for the existing wood doors in the animal facility to be changed to painted hollow metal doors with armor plating along lower half of doors. New sani-rail wall protection will also be shown in other rooms on third floor. The animal rooms on the third floor will house animals in cage racks provided by VT and connected to ME and water systems. Along with these spaces on the third floor is another space on the first floor that was initially designed as Lab Ready Spaces 1304 and 1305. These spaces were finished during the initial construction project, but as a general use support area. The scope of this project is to divide these rooms by constructing new walls along and perpendicular to column line E. The new walls around the perimeter will protected by sani-rail wall protection. The new rooms on the first floor will have movable animal racks provided by VT. A Bid Bond and Contract Security will be required of all bidders regardless of bid amount. 049302309
