CITY OF MATTOON NOTICE TO BIDDERS LAFAYETTE AVENUE SIDEWALKS The City of Mattoon is accepting bids for sidewalk improvements on Lafayette Avenue from Logan Street to Crestview Subdivision. The project is 0.25 miles in length. Bid documents are available by calling the City Clerk's Office at 217-235-5654. Sealed bids labeled "Lafayette Ave Sidewalks 23" are due at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. All Contracts for the Construction of Public Works are subject to the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act (820 ILCS 130/1-12) and all Equal Employment Opportunity requirements' Certified payrolls are required weekly. Only those questions addressed in a written addendum to all bidders shall be considered to modify these bid specifications Description of Work The project includes new sidewalk and ramp construction, as well as replacement of existing sidewalks and ramps. Traffic Control Lafayette Avenue and the adjacent sidestreets shall remain open to traffic during the work. The staging requirements for each driveway are noted in the plans. The contractor shall protect the work areas from vehicle and pedestrian traffic using cones, drums, or barricades. The contractor shall provide prompt, courteous attention to pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the work area. Failure of the contractor to provide prompt, courteous attention to traffic may result in suspension of the work. Layout The layout is shown on the attached Plans. The contractor shall have the lead in laying out the work in conformance with the drawings. City staff will be available for assistance as needed. A professional land surveyor is not required. Earth Excavation This work shall comply Section 202 of the Standard Specifications. The contract quantity for Earth Excavation includes; areas where there is no existing sidewalk, areas where the existing sidewalk is narrower than the proposed sidewalk, and areas where the proposed sidewalk will be lower than the existing sidewalk. This work will be paid at the contract unit price, per cubic yard, for Earth Excavation to excavate, haul, and dispose of the material. The Earth Excavation quantity does not include the difference in thickness between the existing items to be removed and the proposed construction items. The cost of this excavation shall be included in the cost of the various removal items. Removal Items, General Removal items shall comply with Section 440 of the Standard Specifications. All items specified for removal shall be removed from the job-site and disposed of at the contractor's expense. Full-depth saw cuts are required at all concrete removal limits. The cost of this work shall be included in the various removal items specified.
