Demolition for a residential development in Topeka, Kansas. Completed plans call for the demolition of a residential development.
The City of Topeka is soliciting bids for the residential demolition of a house and single level buildings: 1. Residential house located at 535 SW Watson Ave, Topeka, KS. 2. Single level buildings located at 537 SW Watson Ave, Topeka, KS. In order to be considered for this bid you must bid on both properties. Bidders must be currently licensed by the City of Topeka Development Services Division as a Demolition Contractor or General Contractor: three (3) stories or less, and provide a copy of their valid certificate of insurance for the types and amounts required upon request, and/or upon notification of award. Demolition work may not be subcontracted or assigned without the prior written approval of the City. Deadlines: Execution of Contract and Notice to Proceed. If the bid is awarded to Contractor, Contractor must sign the contract and return it to the Contracts and Procurement (C&P) Division within five (5) business days from the date Contractor is notified. Failure to sign the contract and return it to C&P within this time period may result in the award of the contract to the next lowest, responsible bidder. Deadlines: Completion of Demolition and Liquidated Damages. The Contractor agrees that demolition services shall be completed within fifteen (15) days from the date that the Notice to Proceed is issued. The City shall charge a liquidated damages penalty in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00) for each and every day in excess of the fifteen (15) day completion period or extension period. Failure to complete the work within fifteen (15) days from the date that the Notice to Proceed is issued may also result in termination of the contract. If events beyond the control of the Contractor prevent completion within the fifteen (15) day period, the Contractor may request an extension of time No payment for work prior to notice to proceed; exception capping sewers. The one (l) Contractor awarded the bid ("Demolition Contractor") must not perform any service, other than capping of the sewers, prior to the City's issuance of the "Notice to Proceed". Any work performed prior to the issuance of the "Notice to Proceed" shall be done at the sole expense of the Contractor. The Demolition Contractor shall cap the sewer line before any demolition of the structure is commenced, and said sewer capping shall be in accordance with the City of Topeka Standard Engineering Technical Specifications and standard operating procedures developed by the Construction Inspection Division of the City of Topeka. The cap shall be done at the property line, although the Construction Inspector can waive this requirement due to unusual circumstances of that particular site. The cap must be inspected and approved by the Construction Inspection Division of the City of Topeka. The City has prepared a report on the subject property, which the report is available to the Demolition Contractor for review. The report represents the conditions of the subject property as of the date of the report. The Demolition Contractor relies upon the report at his own risk. The information that you need for the structure(s) to be demolished is listed below. The information includes the address, name of the owner of record, the approximate dimensions of the structure respectively, special provisions, etc The City will arrange for the disconnection of utility service connections. Before starting demolition the contractor shall verify that all utilities have been disconnected. The contractor is responsible for calling dig safe to get locates. The sewers shall be capped. Demolish and remove the house, buildings and foundations. All demolition materials shall be dumped in a demolition landfill licensed by Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Demolition landfill receipts to show landfill usage are required prior to payment for services rendered. All trees, branches and limbs on the ground, incidental to the demolition of the structures. Trees can only be removed if affecting the demolition of the structure. (Include any tree removal necessary with the bid of the structure) **NOTE if a tree in the City ROW needs to be removed the contractor is responsible for contacting the Code Inspector prior to the removal of the tree. All grass/vegetation shall be cut back below the 12 inches to comply with the City of Topeka ordinance. The foundation holes shall be inspected to insure no demolition debris is in them prior to back filing of the excavation. The site shall be graded to drain away any standing water or drainage way and the ground shall be grass seed ready Cut/grind curb to height that is level with pavement and sidewalk on either side. (Curb is parallel to Watson Ave, on East side of property - see attached photos). Remove mailbox on pile of cement remnants, remove all concrete, bricks, blocks, carpet, buckets, trash bags, lumber, construction debris, tree limbs, branches and wood on ground, loose trash, debris and rubbish from the premises. Remove interior sidewalks and/or cement pads between the City sidewalk and the back of the property. Remove and level out dirt pile at rear of property
