Saving Project...

Site work for a water / sewer project in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The city intends to replace roughly one mile of roads each year. During road reconstruction, water mains that are 50+ years old and non-PVC are replaced. Most roads that are chosen to be replaced have multiple water main breaks and have cost the city large amounts money for repair. The city is also targeting any neighborhoods that might have public and private service lines. Staff has identified over 900 public lines and over 700 private lines. Replacing water mains helps eliminate lead from our system. Health Impact: Replacing all service lines containing lead is at the top of the Utilities list. Replacing sections of water main each year gets us to a leadfree system. There are on average 25 water main, and service breaks a year. This causes damage to the streets as well as customer property. Replacing areas with historic breaks helps eliminate any danger caused by a break, especially in cold months. Environmental Impact: New water main ties directly into replacing old, damaged roads. This makes for a safer, cleaner road and eliminates old lead and iron pipes from the ground. Operational Impact: The impact on replacing sections of mains with heavy breaks is great. Thousands of dollars are spent every year on labor, supplies and materials used in the repair of broken water mains. Thousands more would be needed if repairs were not done by staff. Over 60% of the city has PVC pipe as a water main material. Alignment with City Plan's: The street projects are carefully planned and bid out. The lowest bid is chosen. The city works extremely close with the design and construction contractors to ensure each project meets our strategic plan. Necessity of Project: It is essential that the city continue its water main reconstruction program. The city needs to continue with the removal of all public and private lead service lines. The roads chosen this year are: Parkway Drive Parknoll Lane Jacues Lane Parkway Court Fiscal Year 2023 Budget CIP,2023-2027 Budget *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
