The University reserves the right to modify the above schedule of events and make changes to other provisions in this RFQ. It is the Bidder's responsibility to read the entire document and any addendums, and to comply with all requirements listed herein. The University RFQ Administrators are the sole point of contact regarding all procurement and contractual matters relating to the requirements described in this RFQ; and are the only office authorized to change, modify, clarify, etc., the specifications, terms and conditions of this RFQ and any agreement(s) awarded as a result of this RFQ. All questions and requests for clarification concerning this RFQ should be entered into the CalUsource Discussion Forum by the questions deadline indicated in the Schedule of Events. Question Deadline 05/18/2023 at 5:00 PM PT The purpose of this Request for Quotation ("RFQ") is to invite qualified bidders to prepare and submit quotations for the excavation and backfill of soil surrounding four test piles within a research soil pit at the UC San Diego Englekirk Structural Engineering Center (ESEC) for the University of California, San Diego ("UC San Diego" or University"), in accordance with the requirements set forth in this RFQ. ESEC is the site for the Shake Table and this project is in support of that research. All work (Phase I and Phase II) must be completed by end of business day on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Phase I Work Wednesday, June 7 - Tuesday, June 13, 2023 Phase II Work Wednesday, June 21 - Wednesday, June 28, 2023 Phase I: Excavation (Performed Week 1) A. Contractor shall mobilize necessary equipment required to excavate an area with an approximate volume of 200 CY. Contractor shall list required equipment for ESEC site personnel and UCSD research team review within 1 week of mobilization. B. Refer to Attachment A - GN-02 drawing for extent of excavation. a. Prior to the start of excavation, Contractor shall provide temporary boundary (such as caution tape or other means) to ensure area is blocked off. This boundary shall remain until completion of Phase II. b. In-situ excavated soils shall be used to complete Phase II work. Therefore, excavated soil shall be stacked and stored on-site east of the north and south soil pits. Contractor shall protect the stacked soil with a cover to ensure no loss of volume during storage period. c. Excavation shall have a wall slope no steeper than 1.5H:1V. If steeper slope is requested, this needs to be confirmed and agreed with the UCSD research team prior to commencement of work. d. Maximum depth of excavation shall a minimum of 8ft. e. The work requires the removal of soil surrounding four existing instrumented piles (pile tip around 19ft below existing grade) and two non-instrumented shallow piles (pile tip approximately 4ft below existing grade). All piles must remain undamaged during excavation. i. Soil shall be removed by hand within a 2-ft radius of the exterior edge of test piles #1 to #4. ii. Soil shall be removed by hand along the south excavation wall (direction of concrete wall) within 3-ft clear distance from the two southern piles (east and west). iii. Alternative methods are acceptable. iv. Contractor shall provide written documentation of excavation methodology for UCSD research team review and approval. Documentation shall be provided within one-week of mobilization. C. Duration of excavation shall not exceed 5 working days. If additional days are required, this should be communicated to the UCSD research team prior to work commence. Phase II: Backfill (Performed Week 3) A. Contractor shall mobilize necessary equipment required to backfill and compact the area excavated in Phase I. It is estimated that the mobilization for backfill will occur with two weeks of completing Phase I work. Contractor shall list required equipment for ESEC site personnel and UCSD research team review within 1 week of mobilization. B. The backfill of the original soil shall be made in 8-inch lifts with compaction occurring at each lift. C. Each lift shall be compacted to 90% of maximum dry density per ASTM D1557. D. Compaction shall be done by hand-held compactors. E. Contractor shall provide written documentation of backfill and compaction methodology for UCSD research team review and approval. Documentation shall be provided within one-week of mobilization. F. A geotechnical Engineer will be present and onsite during the backfill. Contractor shall provide geotechnical engineer with any requested access to evaluate the backfill process and take samples when needed. G. Duration of backfill shall not exceed 5 working days. If additional days are required, this should be communicated to the UCSD research team prior to work commence. Schedule of Work: A. Contractor shall provide estimated duration to perform each phase of work. B. Contractor shall anticipate the Notice-to-proceed within one week of mobilization. Anticipated start of excavation to occur between 6/7/2023 and 6/28/2023. Backfill will commence within 5 business days of the excavation.
