Site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Toronto, Ontario. Design plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; and for the construction of a bridge / tunnel.
Construction of the Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge, a suspended arch bridge, will connect downtown and emerging neighbourhoods like Quayside. The structure will create a vital connection between two globally significant communities, the Quayside community in downtown Toronto, and the emergent Villiers Island. The bridge will accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists and become an important connector of the central waterfront to the broader waterfront park system, building on and enhancing the Waterfront Toronto network of beautiful, sustainable and accessible public realm and pathways. TIMELINE: As of May 2024, following a design competition, the project partners of the WilkinsonEyre design concept, Equinox Bridge, have been awarded for the Keating Channel pedestrian bridge. Provincial and federal funding has been allocated for the project. Preliminary design is underway. Further timetables for tender and construction are unknown. *The ownership is Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto in collaboration with Host Nation and Treaty Holder, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. * The project design is in joint venture with international firm WilkinsonEyre as design architect.
