This project would provide an alternate power supply to keep the Southbridge Regional Water Treatment Plant operational in the event of a power failure. This is in line with good asset management and complies with Iowa Department of Natural Resources recommendations. This project would also add a standby generator to the Riverside Collector Well. During the design phase of the Southbridge Regional Water Treatment Plant, a standby power generator was included in the preliminary design. With budget constraints and the addition of standby power at the Zenith Water Treatment Plant, City staff requested an exemption from Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). That exemption was granted until such time as the average day demand for City water exceeds the 14.5 million gallons a day average that the Zenith generator can provide. This project would provide for the installation of that generator, as recommended by IDNR. With the completion of the Zenith Pre-Treatment Project, the Riverside Collector Well will be placed into full water production. The Chris Larsen Park Collector Well and the Southbridge Collector Well both have standby power to keep our community in an adequate supply of water. This CIP covers the addition of Standby Power at the Riverside Collector Well. These two additions would provide for the ability to deliver an uninterrupted supply of water to our community even in an electrical outage. This project is identified as a Homeland Security Improvement and is an IDNR recommendation at this time. This project is included in the city's fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program.
