Construction of a Concordia University new thematic campus (hub) for educational and research facilities related to the fight against climate change through research, development, innovation and training in connection in particular with energy storage, electrification of transport, applied artificial intelligence (AI) as well as software engineering and cybersecurity. The research will specifically aim development of lithium ion batteries, next-generation batteries and energy systems. The hub will support research on critical minerals and advanced battery materials, helping Quebec and Canada achieve its net-zero goals. Scope of work, project budget and timelines of the project construction are being finalized. TIMELINE: The project is preliminary. Following the first steps in the project realization including the signature of a memorandum of understanding related to this project implementation with the National Research Council of Canada and development of the concept of an innovation hub focused on battery research at the Shawinigan campus, the owner expects to proceed to the concretization of the project in the nearest future. Scope of work and timelines of the project are being finalized. Note. The construction program is based on the collaboration between Concordia University, the City of Shawinigan and the CNETE and follows a research grant from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund awarded to Concordia University. - A $3 million seed fund has been awarded by the Volt-Age program for the project concept establishment over a three-year period. This funding will enable the creation of a research team composed of a general manager, researchers, technicians, and students. - A total anticipated budget of $27 million will be funded through various federal and provincial mechanisms.
