Site work and paving for a road / highway in Cologne, Minnesota. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

The Benton Creek area on the north side of the city will be targeted with road improvements this summer and fall. The city council last Tuesday, June 20, approved a low bid of around $2.1 million from Valley Paving, Inc. to complete the work. Longer term, city leaders continue to review a Cologne area transportation plan being developed in tandem with Carver County Public Works and the Minnesota Department of Transportation with input from the public. The purpose is to establish a package of recommended short-, mid-, and long-term transportation improvements in and around the city of Cologne. That comes on the heels of Highway 212 improvements already being made through Cologne and onto Norwood Young America. The transportation plan will likely be adopted by the council at its July 17 meeting, according to City Administrator Jesse Dickson. Mega Millions Jackpot Rises to $1.25 Billion Arts and entertainment | 0:33 Meanwhile, a proposed new wastewater treatment facility for Cologne was infused with just over $1 million in starter money from the bonding bill approved last month by the Minnesota Legislature before it adjourned. The money will be used to complete final design of the new plant while the city continues to work to secure construction funding, Dickson said. Estimated cost of the project is put at $12-15 million. Cologne's existing wastewater treatment facility is over 25 years old, and city leaders say it is in urgent need of upgrades to meet current permit standards and accommodate the city's growth. Parks also have been the focus of improvements in Cologne. VFW Park downtown is being refreshed with new playground equipment and possibly a new tennis/pickleball court. And a resident recently came before the council proposing a basketball court at Village Park on the south side of town. That led to a discussion about an overall parks master plan. The council agreed to look into the approach and will be reviewing some examples of plans city engineer Bolton & Menk has completed in the past to determine how to proceed. The council also has been reviewing a request from the Cologne Hollanders baseball team for a new outfield fence and batting cage for the Fritz Field ballpark. That consideration with updated quotes for the project is expected to be addressed at the council's July 17 meeting. At its meeting June 20, the Cologne council held a public hearing and approved a franchise agreement to bring cable and internet into Cologne. Comcast proposes to build a comprehensive fiber network through the city of Cologne that would give every resident, business, and institution access to high-speed internet, and Xfinity and Comcast products and services. Comcast would build from its existing network in Carver and Chaska. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Full Depth Reclamation 33,000 SQ YD FULL DEPTH RECLAMATION 13,200 LIN FT 4" PERF PVC PIPE DRAIN 9,500 TON BITUMINOUS PAVING 4,700 SQ FT 6" CONCRETE PAVEMENT 60 LIN FT STORM SEWER PIPE 100 LIN FT 4" SANITARY SEWER PIPE 100 LIN FT WATER SERVICE PIPE 50 LIN FT STORM SEWER STRUCTURE 1200 SQ YD HYDROMULCH W/SEEDING 4,700 LIN FT CURB & GUTTER The work will be substantially completed on or before October 13, 2023 ; All work under the Contract must be complete by October 27, 2023 Question Deadline 06/13/2023 Contact information and submittal procedures for such questions are as follows: Philip Schrupp, at Philip.Schrupp@bolton-menk.com or 612-875-2528 The project involves but is not limited to the complete construction of public improvements for the reconstruction of several streets.
