Site work and new construction of an educational facility in Tonalea, Arizona. Completed plans call for the construction of a 68,520-square-foot educational facility.
Tonalea Day School (Red Lake Day School) is a Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) K-8 school located approximately 25 miles northeast of Tuba City, AZ off US Highway 160 on Indian Route 21, with the school located on the east side of Indian Route 21. Tonalea Day School provides Native American youth the opportunity for a quality education. Tonalea Day School strives to provide an effective learning place so students will eventually take their rightful place as participating members of their community. Tonalea Day School's vision includes providing a safe and healthy environment disciplined by adherence to Native American cultural values and practices whenever possible. All staff members are active lifelong learners, enabling them to work effectively with our students and their tribes, parents, and communities. The purpose of this project is to design and construct, with cultural considerations outlined in the Planning Documents and Design Intent Guidelines, a new 68,520 gross square foot (GSF) K-8 school that serves 230 students and six (6) employee quarters units not to exceed 11,300 GSF (as specified in the Final Space Allocation Agreement between Navajo Nation and Tonalea Day School, dated March 31, 2021); construction of a bus maintenance facility; various environmental tasks and demolition of existing buildings are included.
